Ollie has sailed over 50’000 nautical miles together with Alex onboard the IMOCA yachts and has navigated a steep learning curve, giving him not only superior technical boat know-how but also an in-depth first hand experience of how to sail IMOCA yachts competitively offshore.

The first race for Oliver Heer Ocean Racing starts on Sunday 7th August and is a 1850 mile fully crewed race  Sevenstar Round Britain and Ireland, starting and finishing off the Isle of Wight, Cowes UK. On board will be the IMOCA skipper Oliver Heer, supported by up and coming single handed figaro sailor Patrick Hutchings and Meteorologist and Navigator Libby Greenhalgh. The Oliver Heer Ocean Racing team will be back in France competing at the Defi Azimut Regatta in Lorient in September and then Oliver will take up his role as single handed skipper as he sails his first solo race competing on his 60ft IMOCA on the “Route Du Rhum – Destination Guadeloupe”which starts in St. Malo France on Sunday 6th November.

Apart from delivering a solid performance when sailing, the team is working towards securing suitable funding and title partnership for the campaign, and at the same time wants to make a difference.

As a wind-powered sport, ocean racing is intrinsically linked with positive conversations about sustainability, climate change and environmental preservation. The team will carry the tag #RaceForChange and wants to influence behavioural changes in society that can contribute to protecting the planet for future generations. The team will deliver a climate neutral campaign, and collaborate with leading Swiss scientific partners and research institutes to carry an Ocean sensor aboard the yacht to collect valuable environmental data to help further understand the systems driving our planet’s climate.
