At 7.15am this morning, five days after the start of the 2022 Route du Rhum Destination Guadeloupe race, Oliver Heer with the support of his shore team, DMG Mori sailing team, and the capitainerie port la foret has launched his IMOCA after three days of intense repairs made to his hull and bow sprit.
“It’s absolutely incredible to be able to rejoin the race today. It’s been a challenging few days and I have had to dig deep to make this happen. My shore team has been incredible and have worked relentlessly around the clock and we have had amazing support from DMG MORI and other IMOCA teams who have helped us. I want to say a special thanks to the amazing capitainerie at Port La Foret, our home port who’s flexibility supported us through the repairs. Now it’s time to focus on chasing the fleet and getting to Guadeloupe.”
Oliver, now in last place has a different race ahead of him. With the other boats days into the race, he now has to focus on playing catch up. He has only sailed 9% of the 3600-mile journey but that does not phase him. He is determined and optimistic and is looking forward to a well-deserved rum on the other side.
