The Swiss Polar Institute have developed a new learning programme called Swiss Polar Class, which will release free educational content for schools as Ollie sails around the world.
The Swiss Polar Institute are already closely connected to Ollie’s campaign. During the Vendée Globe, Ollie’s route will effectively circumnavigate Antarctica (the South Pole) providing access to some of the most remote places on the plant.
Based on the scientific activities of the Swiss Polar Institute, this educational platform develops themes related to the Arctic and the Antarctic covering topics such as geography, climate, animals and different forms of ice.
Designed for children aged 8-12, in 3rd- 6th Grade in Swiss-German or 5H to 8H in Romandie, the content is aligned to the Swiss curriculum and will be published in both French and German. New modules will be issued fortnightly during the Vendée Globe race.
Over 250 classes from all around Switzerland are already registered for the Vendée Globe activity! Please spread the word and encourage any teachers you know to visit polar-class.ch and register for this fantastic free resource.
The Swiss Polar Institute already fund and manage the Ocean Sensor that Ollie carries onboard his boat. Whilst Ollie is sailing across the vast oceans, this unit continuously takes samples of sea water, and records various metrics in order to detect long term changes in Ocean health and behaviour.
